Management thoughts on a league win and winning the League.Mike says –“Yesterday I thought we didn’t pass the ball as well as we normally do. Too many passes were intercepted and our decision making wasn’t the best at times. The tight park at Rosewell, a pitch with an unusual give at this time of the season and a spirited performance by Whitehill all contributed to that but we didn’t play as well as we can. Sam and I don’t set the standards our players have achieved, that’s up to their undoubted ability, but we know when these standards slip and it’s our job to prompt, cajole, squeeze a bit more out of them. I suppose the league had already been won and the home side probably had more to play for but we have three important games left and we’ll have to maintain the performance levels we have reached if we hope to add to the Premier League trophy. As for the league season as a whole the players have been unbelievable. We lost 2 home games last August as we got to grips with our new home making the retention of out title a tall order. To do it with 15 points to spare is beyond Sam and my wildest dreams. This group of players have remained unbeaten in the league since 29th August last year and only dropped 2 points away to a good Strollers side on a frozen pitch. They are a credit to the club and to themselves. We now have to prepare for 3 cup finals in less than a week which is a tall order indeed. On Tuesday we’ll concentrate on Gretna, head to Tynecastle on Thursday and only after that even mention Stirling University to the players. Lothian Thistle seems a lifetime away but as I say we’ll take it one game at a time. What I would say is that we are up against 3 quality sides and you’ll see 3 cracking games should you decide to head to Tynecastle, Ferguson and St Marks parks. I hope you do.” Mike |
