Three cup victories

Posted on Saturday, April 10th, 2010

The Seniors winning 1 – 0 at Coldstream, the Amateurs winning 5 – 3 against West Pilton and the Juniors beating premier league Arniston Rangers 4 – 2 in the Fife and Lothians Cup with the performance of the day.

The Seniors made heavy weather of our first round tie in the League Cup.  The goal came in the 48th minute when Keith McLeod scored high to the ‘keepers left from the spot after Jorge Vinelli had been tripped by Dean Gibson.  It was our 100th competitive goal of the season but we created few clear cut chances despite having the bulk of the possession.  The tight and uneven pitch didn’t encourage a passing game and we couldn’t create clear openings as Coldstream defended well.  Coldstream had only one corner and didn’t have a shot on target all afternoon.  Robbie Manson picking up man of the match with a tidy display. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Archibald, Gerrard, Fowlie, Malin (Hoskins 72), Manson, King (McAuley 78), Kader, McLeod, Vinelli.

The Juniors captured their first win over opposition from a higher league with an excellent performance.  Arniston scored first but two goals before half time from Kenny Young and then Adam Perry put us ahead at half time despite playing up the slope at City Park.  Arniston equalised early in the second half but we continued to dominate with Nick Reid heading home the decisive third from a Struan Preston cross.  Struan then capped an excellent performance from the bench with the fourth.  Team: Paterek, Cruickshank, Steele, McKibben, Moffat (Hair), Scott, Antoni, Bannon, Reid (Roberts), K Young, Perry (Preston) Subs not used: Sutherland, Boyes, G Young

Adam - goal drought over, first goal in 5 games

The Amateurs were 5 – 1 up against West Pilton in the quarter final of the Miller Cup but let in two late goals to win 5 – 3 and set up a local derby in the semi final against Granton Vale.  Our scorers were Wells 2, Aberdein 2 and Webb.

Tomorrow our EoS 19s have the League Cup semi final against Tynecastle at Ferniside with a 2pm ko.

Our Womens team head to Glasgow to play Rangers at Garscube with a 2pm ko.
