Management thoughts on the Uni game tonightMike says –“Although we are still in three cup competitions tonight is the first of the four league games we have left and each and every one of them is far more important than winning a cup final. Our website and tonight’s match programme detail the history of Spartans and the close relationship we had, have and always will have with Edinburgh University Football Club and this is rightly highlighted as it’s their first official visit to the Academy. Sam, myself and our players have to forget all that however and concentrate on trying to win a very important game of football. The Uni sit comfortably in mid table so tonight they can come to the Academy under no pressure and express themselves on our new park. We on the other hand need to produce the goods if we want to retain our title. The pressure is definitely on us but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are up there to be knocked down and the Uni will no doubt rise and attempt that challenge this evening. Tonight we start a run of 4 games in 11 days and Sam and I will have to think carefully about the starting line up for each game. We have a clean bill of health after Saturday’s run out against Easthouses so tonight we have a blank canvas. Our pool of players is strong and we are lucky we can and will put on 3 players we know can influence any game. As we enter this important period of games we need each and every player to be focused and supportive of their fellow players. Football is a team sport and you don’t win league titles with 11 players. Sam and I hope those picked and more importantly those ready to come on understand that philosophy and take it to heart over the coming weeks.” Mike |
