Life’s a beach for the First Team

“Nothing is more frustrating for anyone connected with a  football team than a Saturday postponement. The current bad weather coming on the back of the holiday break means it will be like starting the season all over for each and every team in the East of Scotland when football resumes.

With the Academy field turf also falling foul of the weather we were in the same boat as everyone else yesterday and like half a dozen others we headed down to Portobello beach. Edinburgh United, Craigie, The Vale and Edinburgh Academy Rugby Club were in and around us in front of the Baths and I assume others were using the sand further along the beach. It was not a morning for walking the dog that’s for sure.

We had a good turnout and the boys worked really hard on the firmer sand next to the shoreline.  In the coming week we have provisionally booked a fitness session on Tuesday but with a definite thaw this morning we could return to the normality of the Field Turf instead. Like all other managers in the league Sam and I must endeavour to keep the players fit, focussed and prepared to hit the ground running when play resumes.

Next Saturday we should start the second half of the season the way we started the first against Whitehill Welfare. We will have to play a lot better than we did on that opening day if we are to pick up any points.

Rosewell has no doubt had more snow that the Academy and Saturday may come too soon for the Welfare and ourselves as far as football is concerned.

Let’s hope not.”
