Goals galore

The Seniors bounced back from last week’s defeat witha  resounding 7 – 0 win over Edinburgh City in the league while the Juniors went down 4 – 3 to West Calder Utd in a game we were 2 – 0 up and coasting.

As promised the Seniors freshened up the line up and in came Danny O’Donnel, Sean McAuley and Omar Kader to the starting line up.  We had most of the play in the first half and Alex King came closest to opening the scoring when his lob came off the inside of the post and bounced to safety.  He also had a shot blocked on the line as City lived dangerously but looked threatening on the break.  The opening goal came right on the half time whistle when Keith Mcleod’s effort was half saved by ‘keeper Monteith and knocked home from a yard by Ross Archibald.

City played well in the first ten minutes of the second half when we struggled to retain the ball but it was just on the hour mark when a drive from fully 25 yards from Sean McAuley found the net with the aid of a slight deflection.  Omar Kader added a third a minute later, the goal of the game when his lob nestled in the top corner.

The fouth came when Chris Smith drove home from 18 yards and then Jorge Vitelli netted cooly from just outside the six yard box.  Keith McLeod added a sixth with a header before Ross Archibald added the seventh when he slotted it past the ‘keeper when through on goal.  Some great finishing in the second half and first competitive goals from Chris and Jorge.  Bookings for Chris Flockhart and danny O’Donnell were the only disappointing aspects on probably our best scoreline of the season so far.  The man of the match was again Alex King who drove forward from midfield and created havoc.  Team Flockhart, O’Donnell, Fowlie (Vitelli 70), Sivewright, Archibald, Gerrard, King, McAuley, McLeod (Cassidy 80), Kader, Hoskins (Smith 65) Subs not used: Malin, Manson   Att 176

The Juniors had a day which started very well but collapsed.  Two early goals from Adam Perry set us up and it was looking comfortable.  West Calder then pulled one back with a free header from a corner.  Then disaster struck in the 42nd minute, Joe Steele slipped which allowed their striker through on goal and he was pulled down by David Paterek.  David was sent off, Paul Sutherland took over the gloves and it was soon 2 – 2.  We were 4 – 2 down by the hour mark despite having most of the ball.  Michael Moffat did pull one back with 5 to go but we couldn’t convert a couple of chances before the final whistle went. Team: Paterek, Cruickshank, Sutherland, Steele (McLeod), Boyes, Moffat, K Young, Scott (Hair), Preston, Reid (Bannon), Perry Subs not used: G Young, Douglas, Cartwright, Robertson

The Amateurs game away to Bridgend Utd was postponed.
