Management thoughts on two 2-1 victories.

Mike says –

“While Sam and Mike took the team against the Strollers yesterday I took the opportunity to run my eyes over our Scottish Cup opponents taking on our old friends from Annan.

Firstly Sam was delighted with our performance against a very good Strollers side. Our opponents league postion belies their recent form and our players were well warned not to under estimate the job at hand. I was at the Academy first thing on Saturday morning and “Strollers deserve our respect” scrolled on one of the tactic boards in the home dressing room was my sole contribution to our victory. Sam thought it was a good all round performance with the midfield returning to form after an out of sorts afternoon at Meadowbank last week.

Gavin scored the sort of world cup goal he is capable of (he costs us a few balls sailing over the Academy fences trying them at training) and Dan sealed the victory with this customary one goal of the season.  Sam says Donal made an impact when he went on for the injured Cloudie (I’ll give an update on his knee after he’s had physio on Tuesday) and the only black spot of the afternoon was his rather harsh red card.

Donal will miss Heriot-Watt next Saturday and we can only hope Cloudie makes a quick recovery.

As for my incognito trip to Forfar, I walked right into the Annan committee while buying half a dozen bridies for my mates at half-time of the Chelsea v Man U game in my local today. Sam, Alan and Henry invited me to join them in the Directors box but I thanked them and told them I just wanted to go about my business and head for home. It’s no fun getting phone calls and text messages telling you the team are one down in the second half and you are over 80 miles away and can do nothing about it.

In an even first 45 minutes, two late goals gave Forfar a half-time lead which flattered them. Over the piece however they deserved their victory and we’ll have our work cut out against them on the 28th of the month. Charlie Duncan called us “streetwise” after our victory at Fraserburgh and that’s a good word to sum up the Forfar management team and their players. They have bags of experience and travelling down to the Academy wont faze them at all.

Finally it was great to see one of our own (Naomi Campbell) continue on his remarkable scoring spree. Let’s hope he takes pity on us in three weeks time.”
