Management thoughts on three valuable points at Meadowbank

“There was a lot of pressure on the team yesterday. Our sloppy start to the league season saw to that. We had to take something from our visit to Meadowbank and two goals from Keith McLeod saw that we took all three points.

As a team we didn’t play particularly well but in the circumstances the result was more important than the performance. I say as a team but it was across the midfield that we struggled to get any flow to our game. Flocks and the back three played really well and Cloudie and Donal caused the City defence all sorts of problems up top. The tight park and a very good home side however saw long spells where we didn’t seen to be in control of the ball in the middle of the park.

It’s not often at our level the opposition have more of the ball than we do but it probably happened yesterday. Don’t get me wrong the shape of the game was probably decided by our first minute goal and despite having less of the ball we carved out better chances than the home side. City caused us problems through their fullbacks and wide midfield players in the first half and Sam and I adjusted the team to cope with that threat at half-time.

As I’ve said we didn’t fire on all cylinders but we were solid throughout the team, professional in the way we played and won against a very good side.”
