Management Thoughts on Coldstream tomorrow.

Posted on Friday, October 9th, 2009

Mike says -

“Early in the week there was a lot of talk about the Scottish Cup and our trip to Fraserburgh but we must forget all about that and concentrate first on two very hard back to back games against the Streamers.

For our part tomorrow is all about maintaining the momentum three away wins in a row have given us. The word “away” is significant because whereas we have 100% record on the road this season we have let ourselves down on our new pitch at the Academy. Coldstream like those before them will get a lift from our new surroundings and it’s up to us to get on with the job at hand which is picking up three points. We have to continue to put pressure on the other teams at the top of the table and we can only do that by winning.

Coldstream are seventh in a league of eleven teams which puts them exactly one place off mid table. Despite that they are only one point above Edinburgh Uni who currently occupy bottom place showing just how tight our league is this season. Other than Whitehill every team has lost at least two games and won at least two yet we are hardly two months into the campaign. The league couldn’t be any more competitive and every point must be earned.

We will be without David Etale for the foreseeable future as he headed off to Afghanistan during the week. David is a lovely lad and we will miss him as much during the week as we will on the pitch on a Saturday. We wish him all the best and more importantly a safe return before the season ends.

Alex King, Donal Henretty and Chris Flockhart are carrying knocks and we’ll see how they are tomorrow before deciding on the team. Omar Kader and Dean Hoskins will come back into the side and at least one other change will be made. As I’ve said many times before we have a small squad but a squad full of quality. Struan is back in training and will hopefully be the perfect replacement for our soldier David.  There is also one other signing in the offing.

Finally a thank you to those who turned up to support us in a very important game at Saughton Enclosure last Saturday. With the Juniors playing their first Scottish Cup tie at the Academy I feared we would be forgotten about. That we weren’t and I thank all those who followed the First team.

As for the Juniors, Mark and his boys will have their work cut out tomorrow but I’ve a sneaky they’ll still be in the Cup come 5.00. Lets hope so.”
