Donal - MoM

Donal - MoM

In very windy conditions our Senior team beat Lothian Thistle 2 – 0 in the league today with goals from Donal Henretty and Gavin Malin.  In the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup we drew 1 – 1 with Larkhall Thistle with  Mark Hutchison scoring.  Our amateur team went down 3 – 2 in the league to Fernieside with Finlay Clark and Geoff Aberdein scoring.

In the EoS League we only made one change from our last game with Dan Gerrard coming in for the unavailable Danny O’Donnell.  Despite us playing into the wind in the first half we had plenty of the ball and both Keith McLeod and David Etale came close before we opened the scoring.  A Robbie Manson corner was headed in by Keith McLeod but ‘keeper Swain blocked the effort, the rebound falling to Donal Henretty who stroked it home from ten yards.  Lothian did put us under pressure as half time loomed and McIntosh should have scored from a close range header.

Although Lothian had the ball for spells at the start of the second half we looked dangerous before Gavin Malin drove home a Keith McLeod cutback to secure the points.   The last fifteen minutes were played in the Lothian half as we looked quite comfortable.  Lothian had been really pumped up for the game but we kept the ball well in dreadful conditions and deserved the three points to be only one behind Lothian at the top of the league with a game in hand.  Donal Henretty picking up the Man of the Match for his goal, his dangerous play down the left in the first half and a tidy 20 minutes in centre midfield in the last 20 minutes as we kept possession. Team: Flockhart, Archibald, Gerrard, Sivewright, Fowlie, Henretty, King (Hoskins 67), Malin, Manson, Etale, McLeod (Kader 86) Subs not used: McKibben, Smith, McAuley

A winning send off for David before he heads off to Afghanistan…our very best wishes to David, Flem and all the boys and we look forward to seeing them safely back home for a break in three months time.

In the Scottish Cup we know we now travel to Fraserburgh on Octobver 24th for our second round tie.  Yet another trip north, we havent played at the Broch before and if it isn’t far enough away co-managers Mike Lawson and Sam Lynch will have to get to Brora next Saturday if they want to see our opponents in action.  We’ll need to get the Spartans Lear Jet ready for action.

The windy conditions won the day at Ainslie Park in our first ever Scottish Junior cup tie.  It was a poor game as we failed to keep possession long enough to threaten.  It looked as if we had scored the winner when mark Hutchison scored with a great free kick with only ten minutes left but Larkhall scored an equaliser in the 87th minute.  A swirling cross deceiving ‘keeper David Paterek and allowing the Larkhall striker to stroke the ball home.   Team: Paterek, Sutherland, Antoni, Robertson (Bannon), Moffat, Hutchison, Scott, Osborne, Reid (Cruickshank), K Young, Cartwright Subs not used: Boyes, G Young, Mcleod, Steele, Hair
