Tartan Army meets the Spartans Army

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Working with the Tartan Army charity our Academy Community Programme Manager Kenny Cameron is taking eight youngsters from the Spartans Army and our Street Football initiative through to Hampden for the big game on Wednesday.  Also along to help out is star striker David Etale – not sure if he’s there to look after Kenny or the youngsters!  None of the youngsters have been to Hampden before and the Tartan Army have sent through scarves and flags so they will feel suitably dressed.

International Week

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Like the men it’s a big week for Women’s International football.  On Tuesday night at the Academy we host our first ever International with a Womens Under 19 full international friendly between Scotland and Denmark.  the ko is 7.30 and it costs £5/£2 for admittance.  It would be great to see a big support for the girls and help us show the SFA that the Academy is a great venue for hosting major events.

On Wednesday night the full team take on Switzerland away in a friendly game, ko 5.30pm.  Di Barry and Jo Hutchison from Spartans are both in the 18 player squad.  Good luck to both girls.

Win for Women but 19s go down

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Our Womens team came from 2 – 0 down to beat Dundee Utd 3 – 2.  A goal from Julie Smith in the last minute of the first half got us back into the game.  Second half goals from Dani Stewart and Hayley lauder sealed the win.

Our EoS 19s went down 3 – 0 to Edinburgh City – the goals came in a mad spell towards the end of the first half.

Sunday action at the Academy

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

After all the postponements today there will be a full card of great action at the Academy tomorrow.  Starting at 9.30am we host a 4 vs 4 tourney for 6 to 8 year olds.  This is followed by 3 games of 7 a side at 10.30.

Our top XI at 14s then kick off the 11 a side action at 11.45 against Murieston in the East of Scotland Cup.  Last seasons 13s had a great season but a few of the boys decided to move across to the more famous names such as Hutcheson Vale for this season.  We have re-grouped and the squad is coming together after a tricky start.

Our top team at 16s then take on Edinburgh City Colts with a 1pm ko in the same cup before our Womens 1st XI play Dundee Utd FC in a Premier League game at 3pm.

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

The juniors game against Dalkeith Thistle has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch. The rescheduled date for the fixture will be announced on this site when it has been decided.

Tomorrow’s Action

Friday, September 4th, 2009

A reminder that the Juniors game tomorrow kicks off at 12.30 to avoid the Scotland game.

At the Academy on the synthetic pitch our Saturday 19s play Fernieside also with a 12.30 ko.  The Scotland game is being shown in the academy cafe/bar and there is a plentiful supply of pies to go with your beer!!
