Convincing win for the JuniorsDechmont Forlift League Cup Section 3West Calder United 2 Spartans 6 (Iain Cartwright 2, Kenny Young 2, Nick Reid, Dale Robertson) The juniors beat West Calder Utd 6 – 2 tonight to maintain a slim chance of winning League Cup Section 3 and reaching the semi-finals. Iain Cartwright scored twice, as did Kenny Young, one coming from the penalty spot, while Nick Reid and Dale Robertson were also on target. There were only two changes from Saturday’s line up, with Mark Hutchison coming in for the injured Sam Scott and Iain Cartwright replacing Martin Douglas in reshaped 4-4-2 formation. Cartwright opened the scoring before West Calder equalised and it stayed that way at half time. Young scored a minute after the break before the goals started raining in. West Calder also had a man sent off as the tackles started flying. We picked up three bookings and, in usual Spartans fashion, two were for kicking the ball away. Team: Paterek, G Young, Hutchison, Antoni, McLeod (Hair), Bannon (Douglas), Reid, K Young, Robertson, Perry (Murray), Cartwright Sub not used: Scott Linlithgow look as though they have won the section by beating Newtongrange Star 3-2 tonight. That means Spartans would need to beat Linlithgow by four goals on Saturday – extremely unlikely. Even if that were to happen Armadale would have to lose or draw with Newtongrange Star for Spartans to win the group. Dechmont Forlift League Cup Section 3 standings
Meanwhile, the Saturday Amateurs drew 0 – 0 with Tynecastle at City Park tonight in their opening league game. |
