Home win this evening

Posted on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Despite going behind we ended up 4 – 1 winners over Civil Service Strollers in the league this evening.   Dean Hoskins and Danny O’Donnel came back into the starting line up after knocks from Ross Archibald and Donal Henretty kept them on the bench.

David Turnbull opened the scoring from close range after some sloppy defending after 13 minutes but it seemed to spur us into action with three cracking goals before half time.  Firstly Keith McLeod nodded home a Danny O’Donnel cross after a six pass move in the fifteenth minute before Gavin Malin cracked a left foot volley in the top cormer after half an hour.  Dean Hoskins then smacked the ball home from the angle just before half time.

The fourth goal came with five minutes to go when Michael Moffat cleverly flicked the ball home from close range.  The Spartans man of the Match was David Etale who held the ball up well and linked with Dean Hoskins to cause Strollers real damage on the left side of our attack. Team: Flockhart, O’Donnel, McKibben, Gerrard, Fowlie, Malin (Kader 63), Manson, McAuley (Archibald 80), Hoskins, Etale, McLeod (Moffat 70) Subs not used: Henretty, Sivewright

The Sunday Spartans lost 4 – 0 tonight to St Vincents in their final midweek league game.

Tomorrow the Juniors play West Calder away in the League Cup with a 6.45 ko.  West Calder beat Newtongrange Star 1 – 0 last night so this will be a tough encounter.  Our Saturday Amateurs also play tomorrow night against  Tynecastle in a league game at City Park with a 6.30pm ko.
