Debut for JuniorsIt’s a big day for our Junior team tomorrow as their make their debut in a league cup tie away to Newtongrange Star. Moving up to Junior football will give a better platform to our young players coming through from our Youth section and has given the chance to players like Kenny Young and Ollie Antoni to return to the club.Jim Rae has moved up to be assistant manager and Mark Lamb is delighted to have his experience alongside him. Mark said ” We are delighted to be part of the Junior set up and fully expect the season ahead to be a very tough challenge. We believe we have a good team made up of players with senior and junior experience as well as some of the top amateur players we had last season. We hope we will add value to the league and aim to be as competitive as possible in every game we play. We are aware we’re up against some well established and experienced teams and there are a lot of very well run teams in our division so we face a huge task. It is difficult to predict where you might finish, coming into a new league set up, however we hope to finish as high up the table as possible.” Newtongrange are in the Junior Super League some two divisions above where we enter the league so tomorrow will be a very difficult game. We’re not helped with some injury problems – Joe Steele and Keith Boyes both miss out, and Nick Reid has missed training this week. Tomorrow’s game has also attracted quite a bit of local interest with the Evening News coverage of the Spartans Seniors and Spartans Juniors combining to match the Hearts coverage! This Sunday at the Academy sees the Womens 1st XI start their campaign with a league game against Boroughmuir, ko on the synthetic pitch is 2pm.
