« 2nd XI Cup Final tomorrow | Main | M&M Trophy heading back to the Academy »
May 29, 2009
Congratulations to the 2nd XI who retained the M & M Trophy with a 3 – 2 win over Colville Park in Kirkintilloch tonight. We looked sharper all over the park and fully deserved the win. We had a couple of early half chances and Keith Boyes hit the post with an effort from 30 yards after only ten minuites. A Michael Moffat corner was then nodded into the net by Nick Reid but the ref chalked it off for a push by Paul Sutherland. The goal eventually came on 31 minutes, Steve Bunyon whipped in a dangerous cross and Martin Douglas drove home from close range. At half time we had to make an enforced change when Paul had to go off with a hip injury and Gary Young came on. Colville had more of the ball in the seond half but we looked dangerous on the break. Michael and Adam Perry both should have netted before Michael took a Nick Reid through pass in the 58th minute to score. Colville responded quickly and pulled one back from the spot after ‘keeper David Paterek was adjudged to have pulled down the Colville striker.
Colville again had more of the ball but substitute Andy Michell scored a third on 78 minutes, the goal of the game. Michael pulled the ball back and Andy’s half volley flew into the net from the edge of the box. The scoring wasnt over and Colville did score in the 91st minute and David had to look very lively a minute later with a brave block.
The final whistle was very welcome. Michael won the Man of the Match award and the big trophy again headed East along the M8. Team: Paterek, Burns, Steele, Sutherland (Young 45), Bunyon, Moffat, Douglas (Mitchell 74), Scott, Boyes, Perry (McLeod 82), Reid Sub not used: Graham
