Management reflections on the City game.Mike Lawson’s thoughts on Saturday’s game are –“The nature of Saturday’s win over City in the final ever EOS game at City Park was a good example of how our domestic season has gone. Whoever and wherever we have played we have set out to try to win a game of football. As with Saturday the skill, effort and commitment from our players is there for all to see but like many times in the recent past our inability to turn good possession and good play into goals has meant the result is in the balance going into the last quarter of the game. On Saturday we had the ball in the net three times in the first half, created numerous chances yet could have gone in all square as a City header slipped past the post just before the interval. When the ball bobbled up nicely for Jordon Hall to strike a wonderful equaliser not long after the break I turned to the crowd to my right, looked to the heavens and said “I think someone up there doesn’t like us”. Back to the game and our intention was for Struan to run himself into ground and hopefully run the City defence ragged for a hour then bring on David to hopefully finish the job off. That actually happened but not as we intended. Our penalty was a definite penalty but the rule which says the keeper has to go is a harsh one. Ross Mac had to take over in goal and take over he did, magnificently saving first Donal spot kick and then the rebound from Struan (I think). Having to put their centre-half in goal meant City had to reshuffle their defence and not long after this Struan landed awkwardly on his ankle and had to be replaced by David a little early. The rest is history as they say with David doing what David does best. Our Army striker answered our prayers on Saturday and we all hope that David’s prayers for his mum and dad who are in hospital back in Kenya, are answered as well. David joined the club mid season and his signing and that of big Michal at the back have proved crucial over the last two months when injuries, suspensions and holidays have robbed us of several regular players. A good crowd at City Park saw an exciting last game with quality goals and we now head down to Dalbeattie to try to win the Premier League title.” |
