Struan Preston is also pushing for his first start in three months.  Co-manager Mike Lawson said “Any team who have beaten Heriot-Watt and Easthouses in the league as well as taking a point away from home at Peffermill must be taken seriously and that message has been drummed into the players by Sam and myself all week.  The kick off at City Park is 2pm.

The 2nd XI play their East of Scotland Cup game against Liberton AVU tomorrow in Loanhead with a 1.30pm ko.  Striker Danny Forbes has left to join Civil Service Strollers but coach Mark Lamb has a full quota of strikers to choose from with Nick Reid, Adam Perry and Michael Moffat all vying for a place in the starting line up.
The 3rd XI play a league game against Broughton at the Academy with a 3pm ko.  Form has improved dramatically in recent weeks and coach Doug Cowie knows that three points are a must tomorrow.

Spartans Beat Peebles

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Spartans today beat lowly Peebles 8 (Eight) – 0 today in a very one sided encounter at City Park. It took over 25 minutes for the first goal to go in due to a spirited performance by the Peebles goalkeeper. Once Kader scored the first goal however, the flood gates opened.

Donal Henretty extended the lead before Keith McLeod and Henretty again ensured Spartans went into half time 4-0 up.

Second half goals from Kader, O’Donnell, Devlin and Hoskins sealed the eight nil victory infront of over 130 supporters.

Devlin, Hoskins and Kader replaced Walker, Fowlie and Malin in the starting line up as Spartans looked to turn their fortunes having lost to Easthouses Lily in the King Cup last week. It was a very strong performance by all and Lawson and Lynch will have much wanted selection issues for next weeks home game vs Selkirk.

Team: Flockhart, O’Donnell, Hoskins, Archibald, Gerrard, Manson, King (Hair), Kader, Devlin, McLeod (Preston), Henretty (Walker)

Att: 136
