Stirling University 1, Spartans 1

Spartans were held to a 1-1 draw in last night’s pre-season friendly away to the East of Scotland First Division newcomers Stilring University.

Omar Kader ran through onto a Ross Campbell head flick to put Spartans ahead after 15 minutes, but Raleigh Gowrie’s home team equalised with 15 left after a corner hadn’t been cleared properly.

Mike Lawson, the Spartans co-manager, said: “We were a disappoitment. I think Saturday’s game at East Fife took a lot out of the boys who played at Methil as the four of them looked a bit flat. It was always going to be hard to lift the players after their heroics, but it was a good fitness exercise and I learned one or two things watching from the side.”

Spartans take part in the Annan Tournament this weekend at Galabank, starting with a match against Second Division Stranraer on Saturday.

Spartans: Flockhart, D McLeod, Fowlie, Campbell, Gerrard, Young, King, Hoskins, Noon, Kader (Trialist 71), Devlin (Henretty 80).
