Slow the pace to win the race.
July 16, 2008
I even got a text from one of the players left at home last night which read “Eric pumped us. So much for the night off.” Firstly Eric gave the Peffermill Five what he was instructed to do and secondly in the great scheme of things feeling it after a really hard 5 days at this specific time isn’t a bad thing. I’ll make sure we don’t do too much on Thursday with games coming up on Saturday and Sunday.
We had a training game across half a park last Tuesday where 22 players took part yet when I look at who’s available for Saturday and more so for Sunday I wonder where they all went - or are going. Taking on the Annan Tournament was my decision but without the knowledge of who was away this coming weekend and that Tommo was getting married on Saturday night.
One Saturday and Sunday Struan and Donal are away - I assume Electric is away and Cloudie isn’t 100%. On Sunday Naomi has something more important than football to attend, Kenny Young is unavailable also and I haven’t even started asking who’s going to the wedding.
“Players can surely go to a wedding and not go over the score” is a reasonable assumption you may make but think it through. If Stranraer beat us on Saturday (which the bookies will favour) we have a 12.00 KO on Sunday at Annan. We’ll want to be there by 11.00 at the latest which means a very early start even for those with clear heads.
Still it’s still a few weeks away until Coldstream on 9th August and Mike, Eric and I have plenty time to get everyone, fit, hungry and ready for the season ahead.
This Thursday however we’ll slow the pace.
