See the wind, find the touch and something crap on TV.

Late.                   A guy who used to work beside me called Jake was a bit of an acquired taste. In to himself, not very PC he was always being a smart ass. We were in the pub one night way back – in fact I think it was the quarter or semi final before Aberdeen’s win over Real. Anyway he’d come out with a few smart comments, putting some of the guys down when he came out with a classic – well it was at the time. It was a blustery night and we got a close up of a players jersey being buffeted about and Jake came out with “Look at the wind”.

Schoolboy error Jake my son. “Where?” came a shout. “Aye, where?” came another. “On his shirt” said Jake digging a hole. “What, you can see the wind on his shirt – I thought it was mud” and so it went on.

I thought about Jake last Thursday about the same time Forrest Gump came into my head.  ”What are you talking about?” you’ll be saying, if you’re still with me.

We were doing well down the right against Falkirk Under 19′s and Danny O’Dee was breenging forward supporting Omar. As Daniel overlapped Omar for the second or third time I let out “Go Danny – run like the wind.”

I turned round and those behind me especially Kenny Young were laughing at me.

I know how Jake felt.

Donal was exceptional at left back against Falkirk. He wasn’t as good on Saturday although he had a hand in our second goal. Play stopped nearing half-time and as it turned out the lino on the far side had pulled a muscle. In the dug-out we hadn’t a clue what was going on. It was all happening 60 yards away and after two or three minutes a shout went up.

“Are they looking for your touch Donal?”. Now that might have been Mr Young again but it was in my head at the same time so it might have been me. I sometimes forget things as I’m not getting any younger.

Talking of getting old and forgetting things I got a letter today. Under the heading of “Reminder” it started – “I recently invited you for bowel screening.”

Now there’s an invited I’m moved to accept.
