Selkirk, Gretna 2008 and Falkirk U19’s

July 10, 2008

Late.                       By the grace of god go Selkirk. I’m delighted for Al and I have to admit I like my trips down to Yarrow Park. I don’t know how the voting went or what was actually voted for but they’ll be in the Premier again next season.

The two teams who were denied entry to the EOS a few weeks back will be (Gretna) green with envy at what happened tonight. Once again I’m not privy to the goings on but it seems strange to me that G2008 gained entry to out league when you read about their circumstances. Having said that I’ve never been an administrator and never intend to be one.

A couple of cups were drawn as well and I see we’re away to Coldstream in the second round of the Image Printers.

We beat Falkirk Under 19’s 3-1 at Stirling Uni tonight. They were young boys. I assume most of them were full time young boys. We were without Fowlie, D McLeod, K McLeod, Seeley, Burns and Hoskins. I had to shuffle the pack and played one or two in strange positions but it was a worthwhile exercise where we played very well indeed.

Our team was Flockhart in goal, a back four of O’Donnell, Gerrard, Archibald and Henretty.  Our midfield was Kader, King, Manson and Noon with Walker and Preston up front. Young came on for King at half-time with Campbell and Devlin replacing Noon and Preston on the hour (no first names - it would take too long).

We started well and Robbie hit the post with a header from an Omar cross from the right afte 5 minutes. After 12 minutes we took the lead when Omar laid the ball back for AK to cross from the right. Struan attacked the cross at the front post and we went one up.

20 minutes gone and Robbie doubled our lead with a swerving volley from 25 yards. We were on fire now and 5 minutes later Nicky scored from the spot after being pulled down as he ran away from the young defence.

5 minutes from half-time a slack crossfield pass let Falkirk in to make it 3-1. That was the end of the scoring athough Nicky hit the post just before half time. In the second half the fitter youngsters had most of the ball but we coped quite easily with eveything they had to offer.

A good night for us all round but East Fife will be a different story on Saturday. Didn’t they take 9 from our league champions last pre-season?
